Lismore is a beautiful island on the West
coast of Scotland, just off Oban. It has a population of 180 and a rich
heritage. Only one mile across and nine miles long, it nestles quietly
on Loch Linnhe with glorious views of the surrounding mountains of

Programme:
Each day there are five hours of tuition, 10-1pm and 4-6pm, with time
to explore the island, get together to play music, write tunes, learn
specific tunes, help with the cooking! Each student can work at their
own pace.
The morning session is an opportunity to look at technique, action in
violin playing, tone, developing self awareness in playing and is a
chance to learn some new repertoire.
The afternoon session is more exploratory: Tune writing, harmony
playing, chamber music, improvising and singing.

Costs include all meals, accommodation and 25 hours tuition.

How to get there:
Road
Take the A82 north, onto A828 through Glencoe and Appin, turning
right at sign for ’Lismore Ferry’. Ferry times from Port Appin are: 10,
12, 2, 4, 5, 6 and last boat at 8pm. Ferry run is 10 mins. Give
yourselves 4 hours to drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow. You can also
drive via Oban (A85), over Connel bridge (A828) to Port Appin.
Rail
Take the train to Oban. There, buy a ticket for the Lismore ferry
from Caledonian MacBrayne office on the pier, which leaves at 2.45pm and
takes 40 mins.

About Mairi:

Mairi Campbell
is one of the
finest teachers of violin/fiddle/voice in the UK today. Her teaching
practice is a combination of tradition and technique allowing her
students to play unhindered.
2008 sees Mairi teaching summer schools in Vancouver, Dartington
International Summer School and Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
She performs with Dave Francis as half of ‘The Cast’; the Cast’s
latest release, ‘GREENGOLD’, is out now on Greentrax -

Her dance band, "Bella McNabs", has been playing in and around
Edinburgh for the past 15 years and has featured twice on "Take the
Floor".
Mairi has gained a reputation as a warm and incisive teacher,
clarifying many issues for fiddlers and violinists. She is equally at
home in scots fiddle, classical music, scots song and stepdancing. In
2007 Mairi was awarded Scots Singer of the Year by the Scots Trad Music
Awards and Female Musician of the Year, by LiveIrland ( USA).
