Pete Clark - Mackintosh At Murthly [CD]

A blissfully old-fashioned album, showcasing the music of Robert Mackintosh (1745-1807) performed at Murthly Castle. Mackintosh was a prolific composer and well-respected musician and fiddle teacher. Pete Clark combines his talents on fiddle and viola with those of Heather Netz on fiddle, Christine Hanson on ‘cello, and Jim Leighton on keyboards. Superb.

Pete Clark and The Niel Gow Ensemble - The Birnam Oak [CD]

Pete Clark is not only quite a nifty artist, and a superb fiddler, but also, as this album attests, an excellent composer too. Pete plays here with the Niel Gow Ensemble, presenting their own arrangements of some old Scottish tunes, and some of Pete’s own pieces. The use of a sterling ensemble endows these pieces with an orchestral quality rather than a folky one, yet the music is still quintessentially Scottish. Old tunes, recent compositions, a song of the pearl fishing, and a short suite dedicated to Pete’s local giant, The Birnam Oak.

Pete Clark and The Niel Gow Ensemble - Sycamore [CD]

Not far from The Birnam Oak, which the fiddler Pete Clark celebrated in his last CD, stands a massive sycamore. Pete and the Niel Gow Ensemble play tribute to this wonderful tree in a short suite celebrating the tree’s life. Pete composed this and all the other tracks on the album; all distinctly Scottish, but some with a very Pachelbellian roll. A delightful album.

This exceptional recording is a fitting tribute to the genius of Gow. It was recorded in the Ballroom at Blair Castle with Pete playing Niel Gow's fiddle.

Pete Clark has been a well-respected musician in the Scots music scene for many years. He has performed and recorded with popular traditional bands. He is in great demand as a session musician and plays with the Benachally Ceilidh Band; he is an accomplished fiddle teacher and was a member of the Perth Youth Orchestra.
