In the summer of 2000, John Saich was commissioned to write 6 individual pieces of music for The Classic Malts, a collection of malt whiskies from Scotland's 6 distillery regions, unique in taste and tradition. With the assistance of Distillery Mangers and Staff, John took a journey across the country to find what makes each malt so special, and to translate some of those impressions into music. The tracks form a personal diary of the trip, brought to life with performances from 3 of Scotland's finest musicians: Gavin Marwick, Brian McAlpine and Rod Paul. Recorded in the idyllic surroundings of Ardifuir, Argyll, a stones through from Duntrune Castle, seat of the Clan Malcolm/MacCallum, "Followers of Columba".
