Scottish Fiddler - Pete ClarkThe Scottish Fiddle website of one of Scotland's top fiddlers,
Pete Clark.
Pete now lives in Perthshire not far from the birth places of Niel Gow and
Robert Mackintosh.
The beautiful Perthshire landscape has been the inspiration for Since the release of his debut recording “Fiddlecase” in 1996, Pete has recorded a further five albums, the most recent being “Now & Then”(2006), which features music by Gow, Mackintosh and Skinner along with some of Pete’s own compositions. In addition to concert and recital work, much of Pete’s playing is for dancing. He is a founder-member of the Benachally Ceilidh Band, with whom he has travelled extensively. He also plays for scottish country dancing. (Pete toured Japan with the Edinburgh branch of the The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) and has played for classes at annual RSCDS summer school in St Andrews.) For several years, Pete has been one of the fiddle tutors on the Scottish Music degree course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow. He runs a weekly fiddle class and Spring and Autumn fiddle weeks at the Taybank in Dunkeld (see Dunkeld Bridge Fiddle Week). Pete is also principal fiddle tutor for Common Ground Scotland. Pete is frequently asked to adjudicate at fiddle competitions and has twice been on the judging panel at the annual Glenfiddich Fiddle Competition at Blair Castle, Perthshire. Pete’s passion and respect for the works of the great 18th Century fiddle composers is reflected in his performing, composing, recording and teaching. (In 2004, Pete initiated the annual Niel Gow Festival in Dunkeld, Perthshire, a weekend on concerts, workshops and sessions in celebration of Niel Gow, who lived in the village of Inver, just across the River Tay from Dunkeld.) Currently Pete is working on a new recording and a book of his original compositions. Dunkeld Bridge Fiddle Weeks: 11th-15th May, 2009 14th-18th Sept, 2009
