Guitarist singer songwriter, Dave Whyte, was born in Glencoe, grew up in St Andrews, was a student in Edinburgh, worked in Dundee for several years and has made his home in Glasgow for the past twenty years. Dave first became interested in setting poems to music when he was guitarist and vocalist with one of the early line-ups of the award winning folk group, Ceolbeg.

Since then the settings have featured on television arts programmes and documentaries, live radio broadcasts, recording by Coelbeg, by Dave Whyte himself, and by various artists including Jean Redpath, who has now recorded the majority of the settings on the "And this shall be the music...." album.
