"Like sitting under Niagara with a tin can"

Quote from Hamish Henderson on what it was like  trying to collect songs from the travelling people in the berryfields of Blairgowrie in the 50's and 60's.

THE ERICHT TRUST

The interest in traditional music in the Blairgowrie area, from the festivals in the mid-sixties to activities of the present day, has resulted in the formation of the Ericht Trust, its aim being to establish the Scottish Centre for Traditional Music and Dance in Blairgowrie.

Even today, Blairgowrie is a thriving centre for all kinds of Scottish music from ceilidh bands, accordion and fiddle clubs, pipe bands, dance classes of all types and sessions in pubs to formal concerts and open air performances in the Wellmeadow, plus a plethora of small recording companies making the most of the talent available in the area and beyond.

The Ericht Trust exists in order to provide a focus for all of these activities plus a national venue for both the study and performance of our musical culture in all its variety.  To date no such facility exists in Scotland.  The Ericht Trust believes that it is not only time such a facility did exist but that Blairgowrie is the rightful home for it, with the site beside the scenic River Ericht being unsurpassable.

Blairgowrie is ideally situated for such a centre being within easy driving distance of all Scotland's major towns and cities and yet in an attractive rural situation on the edge of Highland Perthshire.

For further information contact the Ericht Trust.
