Benachally Ceilidh Band Booking / Contact Information:

The Benachally Ceilidh Band have a line up flexible to your needs. A typical line-up would be a  four piece band but we can flex from two to six band members. We can also arrange a package which includes a professional disco or covers band if that's what you require. It doesn't matter if the function is in Perth, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dundee, Fife or Timbuktu!

*See below the form for some recommendations on size of band, budgeting and venue considerations.

BAND NUMBERS:

0-50 guests        -    2 or 3 piece ceilidh band

50-100 guests     -    3 or 4 piece ceilidh band

100-200 guests    -    4 or 5 piece ceilidh band

200+ guests        -    5 or 6 piece (or more) piece ceilidh band

These are merely guidelines based on our experience.

A three or four piece would typically consist of a dance caller, midi accordion and fiddle and/or drums. For a five/six piece we would add a second fiddle and/or guitar.

BUDGETING:

Arguably the major factor of your function's success will be decided when you choose your Ceilidh band. When you are budgeting your function, the cost of entertainment should be a primary consideration. If you divide your total function budget by the intended number of guests, you may well find that you are spending more per head on extravagances, which are unlikely to be as important as the entertainment!

When choosing a Ceilidh Band please consider all your requirements very carefully. Here are some questions you might like to ask prospective Ceilidh Bands.

- Are there customer testimonials available?

- Are the band reliable - on time and dressed for the occasion?

- Does the band have an entertaining and experienced dance caller?

- Is there a high quality of musicianship?

- What instruments do the band play? (Some instruments are better suited to Ceilidh dance music than others!)

- Can the band appeal to all ages?

- Can the band encourage even the most reluctant individuals onto the dance floor (even those not familiar with ceilidh dancing)?

- How long have the band been playing together and what experience do they have for playing at Ceilidh dances?

- Is your band's equipment PAT tested?

- Does your band have public liability insurance?

VENUE CONSIDERATIONS:

- When booking your event, try to view the room where it will be held. It is best to have a room without a small wooden dance floor (made of blocks) set up in the middle as it is easier to dance on a floorboarded floor than try to dance around a raised floor more suited for disco dancing.

- It is quite useful to have a room which is not L-shaped or with the bar in a separate room, as you will find people tend to disappear. Better to have one rectangular room with integral bar where they can stand and watch and hopefully be encouraged to join in!

- If you plan to have a disco as well as Scottish dancing it is better to have the Scottish dancing first and then follow with the disco rather than alternate the two. This is because the Scottish dancing builds up throughout the evening and having breaks usually interrupts the momentum.
